Indonesia requires foreign devices to be registered if used with a local SIM for extended periods. Understanding the IMEI policy helps you avoid unexpected service blocks.

This information is general guidance and may change. Always verify official requirements before departure.

IMEI Policy for Tourists

Foreign devices are allowed a grace period (historically 90 days) before IMEI registration is enforced. For typical tourist stays this is unlikely to be an issue, but check the latest policy at imei.kemenperin.go.id.

Checking & Registering Your IMEI

You can check your device's IMEI status at imei.kemenperin.go.id. Registration can be done online or at the Ministry of Industry offices. Keep your purchase receipt and proof of ownership.

Network Compatibility

Indonesia uses 4G LTE (Band 1, 3, 8) and 5G in select urban areas. Most modern unlocked smartphones are compatible. Older or carrier-locked devices may have limited functionality.
